What changed in the 2026-27 budget
The Finance Act 2026 took effect on 1 July 2026. For salaried people the two headline changes are a finer set of upper slabs — the old 23%, 30% and 35% steps became 20%, 25%, 29%, 32% and 35% — and the abolition of the 9% surcharge on income above Rs 10 million. Together those drop the top effective marginal burden on salary from about 38.15% to 35%.
The Rs 600,000 exemption threshold is unchanged, as are the rates for business individuals and AOPs. See all the tables →
Why trust these numbers
- One source of truth. Every calculator reads the same rate file, so no two pages can disagree.
- Checked, not remembered. Rates are taken from the Finance Act and cross-checked against published professional summaries before they ship.
- Shown, not asserted. Calculators display the band-by-band working, so you can verify the result rather than take it on faith.
- Nothing collected. No account, no salary logged, no file uploaded.
